How to Make Mondays NOT Suck Mini Series: #6

How To Make Mondays NOT Suck is a strategic and sometimes satirical mini-series that will make your Mondays less ...sucky. (But let's be honest, nothing can get worse than this Monday From Hell) Mondays are ALL about momentum. Previous to the figurative punch that your asinine [insert default iPhone alarm tone name here] alarm clock delivers to your face, you have absolutely NO momentum for the week whatsoever. In fact, after the four dopamine-induced snoozes that you slap down, you're basically operating at NEGATIVE momentum. In search of positive momentum, you race the clock to go through your mundane yet essential morning ritual- going through your mental checklist to make sure you don't forget anything. The shot clock is ticking and you have the ball, do you have what it takes to drain the shot? Nope. You left your phone on the charge and don't realize it until you pass your old middle school. Time to turn around.

Note: I use the word Monday as a loose framework for the day that starts your work-week- My office just so happens to start the week today, on an actual Monday. Don't be discouraged to apply this to your own personalized workweek, and I'm deeply sorry if everyone else's Friday is your Monday- That really sucks..

So Why Does This Monday Suck?

I'm gonna get a little personal on you guys. I haven't been feeling well emotionally lately, ever since I returned from my long weekend down in Nashville, I've felt a bit off.

Not really motivated - no drive to do anything whatsoever.

Quite frankly I've been a bit of a baby lately and stuck in a bit of a rut - Not even taking my own advice on the road to planning success. Compound that with my dissatisfaction about the direction of the blog (to no-one's fault but my own, might I add) and you've got a bit of emotional roller coaster.

Call it SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) or just another lull in this journey we call life, regardless - I'm rolling with the punches and licking my wounds along the way.

My friends have been great along the way but it's tough to open up about your failures and lack of production when you run a self-development blog, but you've gotta realize that being honest with yourself about your reality is more than half the battle.

"You've got to keep the end in mind, think big picture kid" Thanks brother!! You know who you are, always there to pick me up when I get down on ya

Okay, But How Do I Make THIS Monday Not Suck?! What's the Solution This Week?

Today We're Talking Planning Your Week

We all know that Mondays are depressing for a few reasons:

  • The most prominent reason being that we have to surrender our freedom from the weekend to The Man

Dr. Steve Taylor, author of book, Back To Sanity: Healing the Madness of Our Minds states in his blog article in Psychology Today, Looking Forward: Why do we live in the future rather than the present?:

human beings need to live in the future to stop them facing up to the present.

That's why this week we're telling you to distract your mind from momentary disdain and dissatisfaction to plan your week accordingly:

Mr. Manifest's Week At a Glance

Monday New Haven Warhawks Hockey game at 10pm (Milford,CT)
Tuesday Tuesday Night Manifest Millennial Bowling 7PM
Wednesday Poker Night with Dan Bilzerian - Manifest Charity Event
Thursday Traveling to Manitoba to catch New York Rangers @ Winnipeg Jets
Friday Ronnie Jones Open Mic Night at Cafe Nine or Movie Night

Okay so a few of those I had to make up to fill the space but you get the point- Which ones do you think are real?

This article does a really good job of hitting the nail on the head about dissatisfaction in the present and looking forward to events in the future. It's a bit depressing if you're in the state that I am right now

You react to these negative feelings by looking into the future and scanning for any upcoming events or arrangements which you think you’re going to enjoy.

but for now, I'll take the short term win to get me through this Monday.
